Sanctuary in the computer lab
I went to school to transfer some files from my jump drive to the H:// drive so I can save my assignment in two places. I like coming to school a little early so I can have some time to settle in. My computer is not very fast, so I prefer to use the school’s or my parents’ computer.
I had to go to two places to use the computer. Fifteen minutes into my work session at the library, a teacher came in and said she needed the computers for her class, so everybody else had to leave. I walked to the Science and Engineering Lab and transferred the files.
My classmates are probably talking in Stevenson Hall. Why do I wait until later to waltz into class? #1, Stevenson is kind of dirty and stinky, so I prefer to sit in a nicer building before class. #2, I prefer to spend time alone before class. #3 I have work to do pertaining to web design – so here I am.
One thing I dislike about being a student is the fact that there is always something to be done. Technically, I do not have any discretionary time, but I make it anyways. Technically, I could spend time getting the next task done in place of exercising, but I would rather get an average grade and be physically fit than get a high grade and be flabby. Technically, I could be flexible with my time and wake up late. Technically. But if I literally did that, the work would just come at me like an avalanche.
I’d rather manage my work than let it manage me – even if it means that I receive less recognition and mediocre grades.
After all, being a student is a job.
